Philip Golden recorded four
records as Mission to Mars between 1998 and 2004, two of
which are available from Stereotype Records. After breaking
up the band after the Lasterday tour in late 2004,
he retreated to the Stereotype North studio to record what
would become Walk
under and on with the help of former bandmates and
other Portland musicians. Philip engineered and produced
the tracks with the idea of building on the musical ideas
of 2001's Rockandrollspidermanbasketball . The result
is his most cohesive effort to date and is being widely called
his best album yet.
Years after making a promise to himself,
Philip finally managed to record an album whose tracks comprise
a singular story. Walk
under and on is a meditation on the forces within and
without a person's control that shape his life's path. The
musical and lyrical themes that run throughout will resonate
with anyone old enough to have a bit of perspective on his
or her life. |
