Mike Coykendall released three critically acclaimed albums
with San Francisco's Old Joe Clarks before moving to Portland,
OR in 1999. He set up a home studio, and has recorded such
local luminaries as M Ward and Richmond Fontaine, while piecing
together what would become his debut solo effort Hello
Hello Hello. He engineered and played nearly every track on the album
and says that the process pretty much drove him crazy. The
results are an amazing record of psychedelic folk rock. Dark,
moody, and sometimes desperate, it still finds ways to cram
melodies into your head that you won't shake for days.
Since then he has also recorded the likes of Bright Eyes, Beth Orton and all sorts of fabulous people. Mike is also on permanent loan to M.Ward as part of his touring band. Look for more music from Mike this fall.
